Michael Berg welcomed Penny Dombrowski and Jean Bobadilla from Family's Child Care Connections team. Penny and Jean will be instrumental in opening the Seedling Child Care Center at Golden Hill. The center is slated to open in the spring and will welcome children from six months to five years old. They discussed the great need for child care in our area and the financial pressure parents feel when their income makes child care seem unaffordable.

Homelessness affects so many children in our area. Michael invited Jenifer Restrepo Agudelo, the Kingston City School District's McKinney-Vento liaison, to discuss the number of children considered homeless in the district and the impact it has on their scholastic work.

Amy Leonard, Executive Director of Ulster Literacy, joined Michael to discuss the lack of literacy among children and adults throughout the region. They looked at many causes for this, including the impact of the Covid shutdown.

Michael welcomed Kasia Donahue from Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. Their agency provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and families. Last year, they handled more than 12,000 cases in seven counties.

Michael welcomed Stephanie Kearns, President and CEO of the United Way of Ulster County. They spoke about the partnership the two agencies have had over many years, the current issues facing our community, including the cut to SNAP benefits, and the role the United Way plays in the region.
