BioBlitz! Today was so much fun! For the 90th episode of Nature Nuggets, on the first full day of spring, the Radio Kingston tech team set us up to broadcast our show live from the field under the tulip trees and sycamores at the beautiful Red Fox Ravine preserve on the outskirts of Kingston.

All three Nature Nuggets hosts, Laurel, Chris and Duane, were on the air together for the first time to participate in the community science event known as BioBlitz, involving Kingston Land Trust, Scenic Hudson, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies and Hudsonia. We had ten people cycle through our hour on the air today, describing the multiyear Defining Urban Biodiversity project and the species scavenger hunt taking place around us as local residents fanned out across the property with binoculars, hand lenses and phone app tools like Merlin, Ebird and iNaturalist to survey and document their findings.

The show was interrupted once by the excitement of a Bald Eagle flying right overhead and again by the startling sight of an airborne turkey sailing down the canyon in front of us ;-).
