This week Chris Baker sits down to chat with Logan Berrios, a 16 year old naturalist born and raised in Kingston. Logan tells us how he got involved with the John Burroughs Natural History Society during the pandemic when he was just 10 years old, and how through some great mentorship and following his own interests he has now progressed to the point of being able to share his knowledge and passion with others. Specifically, Logan will be co-leading a walk on Saturday, April 25th with Steve Chorvas at Sojourner Truth State Park, "to raise awareness about an important and threatened ecosystem during the spring emergence of Juniper Hairstreak butterflies at one of the last remaining breeding colonies in Ulster County."

Folks wanting to attend the walk are encouraged to pre-register by emailing Steve Chorvas at schorvas@gmail.com.

For more info about the other walks mentioned in the hour (including another walk Logan will be leading in September!) head to JBNHS.org and join the mailing list.

Logan Berrios is 16, a homeschooler, Kingston resident his whole life. I am a naturalist and obviously enjoy being outside as often as possible. Logan has had the opportunity to work and volunteer in local gardens and farms and is currently learning more about landscaping. His passion is observing the natural world and all its elements. Logan enjoys cooking, sewing, skateboarding and is devoted to being a lifelong learner.
