Today Duane explores all things spring and dives deep into regional water quality issues with Riverkeeper Science Director Dr. Shannon Roback.
Shannon is an expert in the science of water quality and is a passionate advocate for the health of Hudson Valley water supplies.
Prior to joining Riverkeeper, Dr. Roback was the Associate Director of the Water UCI Center at University of California, Irvine and Environmental Health Science faculty at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
Her academic has work is focused oncharacterizing sources of pollution, determining environmental health effects, and developing remediation strategies for a variety of water contaminants, particularly contaminants of emerging concern.
Shannon has also worked at and with a number of local, state, federal and tribal water agencies assisting with the improvement of water treatment technologies, monitoring programs, measurement of water contaminants, data sharing and analysis, climate adaptation, and public engagement around water issues.
On top of her work at Riverkeeper, Shannon teaches in the Citizen Science Program at Bard College.
