Bill Brovold has been described as the musical equivalent of a Swiss Army knife – versatile, unexpected, and always handy in a creative jam. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he dove into New York’s no wave scene and after graduating from the School of Visual Arts in 1982, and has collaborated with Rhys Chatham, among many other musicians and bands.
Bill has been known to wrangle sounds not only from guitar, but any instrument within arm’s reach. In the mid-1990s, he formed Larval, which found its way onto labels like Avant and Knitting Factory Works. Bill’s career is a master class in musical shape-shifting.
He is also and educator and a visual artist, with a sculpture currently in the Notes from Here show at the O+ Exchange! Come see his work along with 14 other Hudson Valley Artists thru Jan 24th!
