We're celebrating Juneteenth and Pride Month by lifting up the voices of Black, queer, and gender expansive artists. Music in today's episode includes songs by Little Richard, Brittany Howard, Billy Preston, Doechii, Queen Latifah, Whitney Houston, Sylvester, serpentwithfeet, Big Freedia, and Luther Vandross.
Jami also welcomed author Sarah Miller whose book Hick is about the 30 year love affair between first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and journalist Lorena Hickok. In her research, Sarah read over 3,500 love letters between the two women detailing their intimate relationship and enduring friendship. Sarah will be at a fireside chat hosted by the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Center on Friday, June 20th at 7pm to read excerpts from the book as well as some of the steamy letters between Roosevelt and Hickok.
You can purchase a copy of Hick at Rough Draft, Golden Notebook, and online.
