• This week, YOUR BLACKMETA's guest is farmer and organizer of Clover Valley Community Farms, AILEAH KVASHAY! And if the way she grins and glows when she talks about farming, and forming lasting connections with the community through farming and food are any indication . . . there might be something to this whole "food growing"-thing!
  • We're also talking journalist and documentarian, Laura Flanders, and her interview with Leah Penniman, as well as FWB . . . Farming While Black. PLUS, the young, honest, talented voices of Eskasoni Mi'kmaq teenagers, and their sweetly haunting rendition of "Blackbird."
  • YOUR BLACKMETA is in not-so-rare form, dishing up music, Meta, and Mindful, to keep it live and flowing! We've been waiting for this moment to arise, and we're glad you're sharing it with us!
--Your Black Meta!

Upcoming Demonstrations
  • May 11th - DSS Break- Light clinic: Midtown, 11-4pm @ Citizen Action Parking Lot 7 Grand Street. This public service aims to help local residents retain access to reliable transportation and to prevent unnecessary police stops that can result in expensive tickets and court appearances. By reducing the opportunity for police stops that disproportionately affect marginalized populations, the Mid-Hudson Valley DSA is working toward its vision of a more just, humane, and free society. If you need your brake light fixed, show up 11:00 - 4:00 (see Riseupkingston.org)
  • May 13th - NYCLU Lobby Day: Monday, 8:45AM - 4:00PM @ The New York State Capital (Carpool leaving from Kingston Park & Ride). We are coordinating a carpool from Kingston to join the NYCLU Lobby Day! We will lobby for the Repeal of 50a, Marijuana Legalization, Green Light Campaign, Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act and stopping facial recognition technology/surveillance in schools. The Museum of Broken Windows will be at the Capitol. The Museum of Broken Windows is a pop-up experience in New York City, which features the work of artists from around the country. The Museum showcases the ineffectiveness of broken windows policing, which criminalizes our most vulnerable communities. There will be different Workshops on Police Reform & Direct Actions! (see Riseupkingston.org)
  • May 14th - Action in Albany: Tenants Rights @ Kingston TBD when you RSVP, you will get more bus pickup information. New York's rent laws will expire on June 15th, 2019. Join New York Tenants from across the State to shutdown the State Capitol in Albany and demand elected officials pass Universal Rent Control! New Yorkers are tired of greedy landlords evicting tenants, raising rents, and displacing families. We will not accept the Governor and legislators valuing real estate money over the lives of tenants and New Yorkers. Join the rally and march at the capitol as we let New York legislators and landlords know that housing is a human right.(see Kingstontenantsunion.org)
Your Meta will keep you updated about these opportunities--and others--to speak up and speak out.

It breeds in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Canada, United States, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, the Falkland Islands, Chile, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.[3] It has a number of subspecies across its large range; a few of the Asian subspecies are sometimes considered to be full species. "Blackbird" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album The Beatles (also known as "the White Album"). The song was written by Paul McCartney, and credited to Lennon–McCartney. Although credited to the group, McCartney is the only Beatle that appears on the track. When discussing the song, McCartney has said that the lyrics were inspired by his hearing the call of a blackbird in Rishikesh, India, and alternatively by the unfortunate state of race relations in the United States in the 1960s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackbird_(Beatles_song)

Bullying Online | Bullyingonline.org
"Why don't you stand up for yourself?" is an oft-asked question.
We're adults, aren't we? In most cases, the bullying follows a two-phase procedure. Phase one is control which is exercised through constant trivial daily nit-picking criticism etc. Eventually there's a defining moment when the target realises that the criticisms have no validity and that they constitute bullying; the target asserts their right not to be bullied, perhaps by initiating a grievance, and the bullying moves into phase two: elimination, which is achieved by dismissal on false charges, ill-health retirement, forced resignation, redundancy, or death from suicide or heart attack due to prolonged negative stress. . . .
