WHO
NIRVANA

Nirvana was an American rock band formed by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting and best-known being Dave Grohl, who joined in 1990. Though the band dissolved in 1994 after the death of Cobain, their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture.

In the late 1980s, Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene, releasing its first album, Bleach, for the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989. They developed a sound that relied on dynamic contrasts, often between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses. After signing to major label DGC Records, Nirvana found unexpected worldwide success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first single from the band's second album Nevermind (1991), which is now considered one of the greatest songs in the history of rock music. Nevermind is also considered one of the greatest albums of all time and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Nirvana's sudden success widely popularized alternative rock and grunge, and Cobain found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation", with Nirvana considered the "flagship band" of Generation X.[1] After touring heavily and releasing Incesticide (1992) and Hormoaning (1992), Nirvana's third studio album, In Utero (1993), was released to critical acclaim. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart and featured an abrasive, less mainstream sound and challenged the group's audience and has since sold over 15 million copies worldwide. In Utero would be Nirvana's last studio album in their active career. Nirvana's active career ended following the death of Cobain in 1994, but many various posthumous releases have been issued since, overseen by Novoselic, Grohl, and Cobain's widow Courtney Love. The posthumous release, MTV Unplugged in New York, won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1996.

Though the band dissolved in 1994 after the death of Cobain, their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture. Overall, Nirvana have received twelve awards from twenty-five nominations winning an American Music Award, Brit Award, Grammy Award, seven MTV Video Music Awards and two NME Awards Since its debut, the band has sold over 25 million records in the United States alone, and over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time.[2][3] Nirvana are regularly considered one of the greatest music artists of all time with Rolling Stone placing them at number 27 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" in 2004,[4] and at number 30 on their updated list in 2011.[5] Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, in its first year of eligibility. . . .

"Did Kurt Cobain Actually Predict Donald Trump As President?" Tyler Sharp, Loudwire.com. August 2,2018.
A Kurt Cobain quote that claims the Nirvana singer predicted Donald Trump's presidency has been circulating the internet over the last few years. It is commonly featured on a blank screenshot with the title Kurt Cobain Knew it All Along - A Quote From 1993. It reads:
In the end I believe my generation will surprise everyone. We already know that both political parties are playing both sides from the middle and we'll elect a true outsider when we fully mature. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a business tycoon who can't be bought and who does what's right for the people. Someone like Donald Trump as crazy as that sounds.
A Twitter user sent out the screenshot yesterday (Aug. 1), to which Daily Beast reporter Lachlan Markay replied, "Cobain did not, in fact, say this. The quote was invented by a pro-Trump Facebook group in 2016. And the idea that Cobain *would* ever muse positively about a 'business tycoon' doing 'right for the people' should immediately set off your bullshit detector."

Meat Puppets is an American rock band formed in January 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. The group's original lineup was Curt Kirkwood (guitar/vocals), his brother Cris Kirkwood (bass guitar/vocals), and Derrick Bostrom (drums). The Kirkwood brothers met Bostrom while attending Brophy Prep High School in Phoenix. The three then moved to Tempe, Arizona (a Phoenix suburb and home to Arizona State University), where the Kirkwood brothers purchased two adjacent homes, one of which had a shed in the back where they regularly practiced.
Meat Puppets started as a punk rock band, but like most of their labelmates on SST Records, they established their own unique style, blending punk with country and psychedelic rock, and featuring Curt's warbling vocals. Meat Puppets later gained significant exposure when the Kirkwood brothers served as guest musicians on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance in 1993. The band's 1994 album Too High to Die subsequently became their most successful release. The band broke up twice, in 1996 and 2002, but reunited again in 2006.
Meat Puppets has influenced a number of rock bands, including Nirvana, Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Pavement, Jawbreaker, and Sublime. . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meat_Puppets
"I Want to Break Free" is a song by the British rock band Queen, from their eleventh album The Works (1984). It was written by bass guitarist John Deacon and was released in three versions: album, single and extended. It came to be included in most live concerts by the group, in several videos and in The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert where it was sung by Lisa Stansfield. The song is largely known for its music video for which all the band members dressed in women's clothes, a concept proposed by Roger Taylor, which parodied the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street. The second part of the video included a composition rehearsed and performed with the Royal Ballet and choreographed by Wayne Eagling. Whereas the parody was acclaimed in the United Kingdom, it was considered controversial in the United States and banned by MTV and other stations. . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Want_to_Break_Free
Blind Melon (Stylized as BLind MeLoN) is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California by two musicians from Mississippi and one from Indiana. They are best known for their 1993 hit "No Rain," and enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock. After releasing two albums on Capitol Records and touring extensively, the band came to an abrupt halt in 1995 by the fatal overdose of lead vocalist Shannon Hoon on the band's tour bus in New Orleans, going on hiatus until officially disbanding four years later. In 2006, the remaining members reunited and recruited new vocalist Travis Warren (from the band Rain Fur Rent), producing a third album, For My Friends. Warren departed two years later, but rejoined in 2010, when the band returned to performing occasional gigs, and as of 2018, they are working on a new album. . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_Melon

The song is well known for its accompanying music video, which features the "Bee Girl" character. The music video, directed by Samuel Bayer, received heavy airplay on MTV at the time of its release. It subsequently helped propel Blind Melon to a multi-platinum level. The song is the band's highest-charting song, reaching number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and number-one on both the Album Rock Tracks and Modern Rock Tracks charts. The single proved successful internationally, hitting number 1 in Canada and number 8 in Australia. . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Rain
