I am Dora Inés Grosso García, a woman, mother, and grandmother, in love with life and my vocation, the world, and nature. My connection with Kingston dates back 13 years when I came to live in Shokan and began studying English at BOCES, there I integrated into the Kingston community and I was interested in contributing my experience of 30 years working as a University professor and psychologist in Colombia. I did volunteer work with the Worker Justice Center of New York, supporting the community of Latino workers, visiting farms, and also in the meetings in the community center, where we exchange speaking in English and Spanish. Also with the gatherings of food and land.
For more than 5 years I have been actively collaborating with La Voz Magazine, writing a monthly article on issues of interest to the community, now it is called The Power of Love; Simultaneously, I joined the Mariel Fiori and Antonio Flores show on Radio Kingston, where I have been doing interviews on various topics in the Psychological and social field aimed at the community. Additionally, I write articles on well-being and health for ABCLATINO la Revista, also aimed at the Latino community. On the other hand, I support the Poughkeepsie Library, giving seminars to the community, depending on the needs of the moment.
I trained as an art therapist and was linked to the activities of the Guelaguetza, in Poughkeepsie as a volunteer to make art with the children and the community that visits us in this event, for three years. I studied at SUNY Ulster Community College CASAC Alcoholism and Substance abuse counselor, I graduated as an addictions counselor and I joined the Samadhi Recovery Community Outreach Center, initially as a volunteer to work with the Latino population of Kingston, where I have been in direct contact with the community and its needs.
I also had the opportunity to get closer to the community through the traditional events that take place in this city and its surroundings, to disseminate the program and offer services. I currently work at Samadhi Outpatient, as a bilingual addiction therapist in the program with the Latino population, in the office located on Broadway Ave. Kingston NY.
I am a holistic psychologist, I have an emphasis in community psychology and I have participated in many processes of integration and support to the community, where I developed my talents and my vocation with great effectiveness and love.
