John Blue

The first time John heard gospel music as a youngster on vacation in North Carolina, he was hooked. That experience sparked the beginning of a lifelong appreciation for all musical genres, particularly the Blues.

He has explored the history of the “Blues” from its African roots to its modern-day art form. John’s experience and knowledge of local, national and international Blues artists gives him a unique perspective on the genre; his love of the “Blues” and his enjoyment of storytelling offers an interesting view of the music and artists that create it.

John and his wife, Maureen Byrd, have been very active in the Hudson Valley music and arts community for more than 25 years, their contribution and sponsorship is well-known.   In 1992 they opened “Blue-Byrd’s Haberdashery & Music” a shop specializing in “all things Blues” (music, harps, lithographs posters, T-Shirts, etc.), along with a fine line of hats for men and women.  They continue to operate “Blue-Byrd’s Haberdashery & Music” at their current location in Uptown Kingston.
