Today, December 16 - by proclamation of Mayor Steve Noble, yesterday at the WKNY Radio Kingston 80th anniversary party- is WKNY Day in the city of Kingston. Today is also the day when after 18 long years, access to driver's licenses has been restored for all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status. And today we broadcast La Voz with Mariel Fiori live from People's Place Cafe at 779 Broadway, which serves free breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 1pm. In the Café we talked with Danny Higuita, coordinator of operations and donations, about the delivery of toys to almost 2000 children for this Christmas, among other services; with client Adelino, whom for Christmas only asks for work; with client A. Stevens, who expects more kindness in the world; and with entrepreneur Ester Cruz, from Pools Kalua, and her daughter Marilyn Cruz, who follows in her mother's footsteps and helps a lot in the family business. People's Place, at 17 St James Street, opens Monday through Friday from 10 am to 1pm, and Wednesday, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, with a thrift store and free food pantry. https://www.peoplesplacekingston.org/
