Today in La Voz with Mariel Fiori is a day of immigration and culture. Through Zoom and Facebook Live we met the artists and curators of the collective Se habla español and the Solidaridad project, imagine the world after the pandemic.

I spoke with María Camilo Montalvo, a CCS student at Bard College, who brought the curators and artists of Se habla español: Natalia Viera Salgado (from Puerto Rico based in New York City); Andrea Valencia (in Mexico), María Alejandra Sáenz García (Colombian, residing in Nashville); and Noelia Lecue France (in Spain).

Se habla español invites artists, designers, writers, photographers and curators around the world to send a work, poem, image or short video (it can be with your phone camera!) And share SOLIDARITY messages in these uncertain times. The purpose of the images, which we will be sharing on our networks, will be to reimagine the future after the pandemic. Send your message along with a short paragraph and the credit of the image to colectivosehablaespanol@gmail.com and spread SOLIDARIDAD.

Anita Campion, in her column La cultura cura, spoke about respect for the natural cycle.

Some COVID-19 updates

It was announced yesterday that the fund that the SBA was using to pay for the Paycheck Protection Program has been exhausted, so there are no more funds available to companies. The economic damage disaster loan application portal has also been closed due to limited funding, but those who have already applied for it are still being processed. This does not mean that you are guaranteed funding if you have submitted an application, but it is currently being processed and funds will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. The SBA is asking Congress for more funds.

Effective at 8 p.m. today, Friday April 17, 2020, anyone who is over the age of two and who is medically able to tolerate a face covering should cover their nose and mouth with a mask or cloth to cover their face when you are in a public place and unable to maintain, or when you do not maintain, social distance, as ordered by Governor Cuomo.

At the press conference yesterday, Thursday, the Governor announced that New York in PAUSE lasts until May 15. This will affect non-essential companies and schools.
