Today on La Voz with Mariel Fiori, we broadcast live from Albany, where hundreds of people from across New York State have gathered to urge the legislature to pass the NY for All Act.
The New York for All Act (A3506/S2235) would prohibit state and local officials from enforcing federal immigration laws that divert people into ICE custody, as well as from sharing confidential information with federal immigration authorities. It also would not allow ICE or CBP to enter non-public areas of state and local property without a judicial warrant.
I spoke with activists, elected officials, and members of the affected community about the impact of this initiative:
Guillermo Maciel, Nelson Andino, and Bryan MacCormack of the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement
Luba Cortes, civil rights and immigration lead, and Kendra Cornejo Muñoz, youth power project organizer lead, with Make the Road New York
Vanessa Cid, Diana López Martínez, and Delfina Escobar, of For the Many
Marcela Mitaynes, New York State Assemblywoman for District 51
