Today on Nuestros Cuentos, Celebrating Christmas, with songs and stories of this time of year, our guests, Brenda and Ilsy Alvarado, talked to us about what Christmas means to them, how they celebrate it, and we read stories about nativity scenes and fairies. The story "The Clay Nativity Scene."
We also talked about the history of Santa Claus, which dates back to the 4th century, and has its origins in Saint Nicholas, a real bishop from that era, who was born in Patara, in what is now Turkey, and was the bishop of Myra.
He was famous for his generosity, especially towards children, and later became a festive figure who brings gifts in December.
In the United States, the Dutch tradition blended with others in the 19th century, giving rise to the modern-day Santa Claus: red suit, white beard, and sleigh with reindeer.
We listened to: Come and Sing, Christmas Has Arrived, White Christmas, Daniela Romo, The Little Donkey of the Savannah, The Little Drummer Boy by Rafael, and Merry Christmas.
