Don't throw it away — fix it! That's the idea behind repair cafés, which Melissa Iachetta organizes along with other volunteers in the Kingston area. The idea is that you can take your broken things and volunteer experts will help you repair them (though be warned, they don't have anyone for broken hearts just yet.)
Melissa credits the late John Wackman for introducing Repair Cafés to the Hudson Valley — you can read more about it in his book, "Repair Revolution: How Fixers are Transforming Our Throwaway Culture."
On April 25 from 11am to 3pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, folks can bring up to two items to be repaired by the volunteer experts, who will include guitar repair, knife and scissor sharpening and many others! For the full list, look at the flyer below.
The next repair café in Kingston will be held on April 25, 2026 from 11am to 3pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 104 Wurts St, Kingston.
