Bard College sophomores Trudy Poux and Starla Bollé join us to talk about their musical theatre adaptation of Goldy Moldavsky's book, Kill The Boy Band.

Synopsis:
The Ruperts are the biggest boy band since… well, ever. That’s why a group of middle school fangirls rent a hotel room to go to their concert- wait, no- to kidnap the worst member of the Ruperts.  Their plan goes south, however, when he gets murdered—and they don’t know which one of them did it. This campy musical romp is an exploration of being a middle school-aged girl and the beloved culty fandom community that forms around boy bands. This comedy explores the nostalgia of 2014 (yup it takes place in 2014. It’s a period piece.) This is an original musical based on Kill the Boy Band, a book by Goldy Moldavsky. The script is written by Starla Bollé with music composed by Trudy Poux.

Trudy and Starla discuss the creative process, their emphasis on casting trans folx, and their roles as Composer and Director, respectively. Trudy plays three original songs from the show live in the studio.
