As a deeply embodied practitioner and facilitator of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and related tools of mindfulness and connection, Nicole shares how they encountered NVC, explaining what it is, how its founder was inspired by Kingian and Ghandian practices of nonviolence in the civil rights movement, and how it might serve us in our close personal relationships and support us in navigating tensions that arise in collaborations. We start to unpack what connection with self and others has to do with undoing domination, decolonization, and communicating based on our beautiful human needs.
Until their website is up (soon!), Nicole suggests connecting with them via the upcoming Navigating Conflict: Building Skills for Connection and Resilience, a 7 week online course they are offering in partnership with Good Work Institute.
Nicole Bauman is a white, middle class, queer, genderqueer, farmer, healer, facilitator, movement builder and parent, rooted in community and organizing in the Rust Belt city of Elkhart, IN (occupied Potawatomi territory), and part time in New York's Hudson Valley. Somatics and Nonviolent Communication have been empowering tools for Nicole's own personal healing and transformation, and have increased their capacity to show up more skillfully to communication, conflict and collaboration interpersonally and within the movement, all with an eye towards undoing oppressions. Nicole’s embodiment and teaching of this work is deeply shaped and informed by their own parenting journey, as well as years of work as a birth doula and yoga teacher, and a decade of living in an intentional community. Nicole is also practicing to be an ICF-certified Healing-Centered Coach.
